This is the first critical edition of a hitherto unpublished sixteenth-century Venetian trial for heresy. The defendant was a young noblewoman in the northeastern area of the Republic of Venice. Her two-year trial is very interesting, for several reasons: it is integrally preserved; the defendant is, quite atypically, a woman; this woman is highly accomplished, and counts some religious dissenters among her relatives and acquaintances; a renowned counsel, whose harangue is also published in this volume, was entrusted with her defense. Furthermore, the records are a mine of information on everyday life, social relations, and religious beliefs in a district of the Venetian mainland in the 16th century.
