A Boon of Daughters

      When Violette Swavely returned home years ago, she had no idea her life would change so phenomenally. After her grandmother's death, she embraced the supernatural legacy of knowledge, property, and duty that was offered to her. Even if these gifts came with tales of strange creatures that have always lurked in the woods around her new cabin in the North Woods. An ancient entity that often assumed the guise of a girl, an enormous Guardian Buck whose life force defied the laws of nature, and giant crows that are particular about who wanders near her home.      She is now the most recent in a long line of women who are known to the townspeople of Eversburg as dispensers of remedies for the ailments of heart, body and mind. With the aid of three heirloom books that have been passed down through the generations, she instructs her daughters, Evie and Lydia, in the traditions of this ancient craft.

      For centuries, the Swavelys' property has seemed to have an aura of protection over it. Until one day, destructive insects and invasive animals appear among the flora, and a land developer begins an aggressive campaign to buy their acreage. Violette uses every means available to find a remedy to the troubles surrounding her. She turns to her family, the books of knowledge, and even the Girl who has flickered on the edges of the lives of the Swavely women since the first of them claimed the hill as their own.     

      Violette had raised her girls to expect a certain path in life, and now they each must find a solution to their suddenly uncertain futures.
