Before you start an adventure, you have to arrive.

In A Little Traveller's Guide to Tokyo, young readers are invited to spend a gentle day exploring one of the world's most exciting cities, where quiet neighbourhoods sit beside soaring skyscrapers, trains seem to glide through the sky, and every street leads to another wonderful surprise.

Lola and her travelling companion Flo arrive in Tokyo by sailboat, tying up their bright red boat at a peaceful marina on the edge of Tokyo Bay. From there, they set off to discover wherever the day might take them.

They begin with a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast before riding a remarkable driverless train high above the city. Along the way they discover a magical giant clock unlike anything they have ever seen, climb high into Tokyo Tower, cross the world's busiest pedestrian crossing, and carefully explore a street with a name that makes Flo just a little nervous.

As the day unfolds, Lola and Flo enjoy lunch at a little sushi train restaurant, meet giant pandas in beautiful Ueno Park, discover shops filled with food that isn't really food at all, and spend a peaceful moment inside one of Tokyo's oldest and most beautiful temples.

There are friendly locals, peaceful parks, curious discoveries, steaming bowls of ramen, delicious gyoza dumplings, and fizzy marble soda waiting before the day finally comes to an end.

As evening settles over Tokyo, the city lights sparkle across the water as Lola and Flo slowly make their way back to their little red sailboat, ready to fall asleep beneath the gentle rocking of the marina after a wonderful day of exploring.

This is not a checklist of famous landmarks. Instead, A Little Traveller's Guide to Tokyo shows children how it feels to discover somewhere new — how to wander slowly, notice small details, and enjoy the quiet moments in between adventures.

Written in simple, rhythmic language with gentle humour, this story is designed for reading aloud and for young readers who enjoy calm, thoughtful adventures. The illustrations and storytelling work together to create a warm sense of place, helping children imagine themselves exploring Tokyo alongside Lola and Flo.
