All the Imaginary Things

Imaginary friends never truly go away, and some aren't really friends at all.

When McKenna was young, she hid in her farmhouse from an unspeakable act of violence with only her imaginary friend, Ann, who stayed long after she willed her away. Now, McKenna's left her past behind as she tries to settle into suburban life, often alone with her newborn son.

Twelve-year-old Brinley moves in next door, and McKenna discovers an unlikely companion for her loneliness, along with a glimpse into the joys of girlhood that she's long abandoned.  As they grow closer, Brinley's unsettling charm and shared stories about her stepfather's temper unearth McKenna's buried memories—and awaken the eerie presence of Ann.

With Brinley seemingly in growing danger, McKenna's grip on reality frays and the trauma she thought she escaped claws its way back. Desperate to maintain a sense of normalcy and keep the darkness away, McKenna questions which threats are real and which are imagined as Brinley seeks her help.

But the girl knows more about McKenna than she remembers sharing. Is Ann back, telling her secrets, or does Brinley have a dark side, playing a game of manipulation and toying with the horrors of McKenna's past? As McKenna searches for the truth, she faces a terrifying possibility: Brinley might not be the one who needs saving.

If McKenna cannot confront the evil she once fled—and the ghosts that refuse to let her go—she risks losing the fragile life she's fought to protect.
