ANTI-STORIES, a short story collection from Matthew Atkinson, is just called that to be edgy. These are normal stories for normal people. But there is some friction involved, as with anything important.
We have post-apocalyptic fantasy ("All Embracing Ruin") and intrusive-thought fantasy ("Hackwork"). We have creatures posing various degrees of danger ("A Bad Art Style," "Garter Snake," "Hypnopop"). We have people posing various degrees of danger ("Non-Story," "Glue Sprout," "Right in The"). And we have the internet ("I Feel Like Shit," "Creations"). There is violence. Fear. An abundance of brutal and scary silence. Large language models at war with each other and maniacs at war with the world.
These are tales of transformation and opposition. They didn't want to exist— they said it was too dangerous— but they've been dragged into the light. These are ANTI-STORIES.
