Before the Shot is not a book about a single incident.

Inspired by the death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother, poet, and U.S. citizen killed during an ICE operation in January 2026, this book does not attempt to reconstruct events or assign legal guilt. Instead, it asks a deeper and more unsettling question:

What kind of systems make such deaths possible — and acceptable?
