Cappy West arrived in Egypt with a perfect plan. The plan did not last.

Meet Cappy West — a friendly capybara with a brass compass, a sage-green bandana, and absolutely no sense of direction. He never sets out to learn anything. The learning just keeps finding him.

In Book 3 of Cappy West: The Global Explorer, Cappy steps off the train in Cairo and gets everything delightfully wrong. He waits politely for three cats to decide whether he may pass. He wanders into a workshop and learns to read a sentence made of birds and feet. He sets off for a museum and finds a sleeping stone king instead, then goes looking for a bus station and stumbles straight onto the Great Pyramid.

Along the way, young readers discover real, verified facts about Egypt: the mighty Nile, whose yearly floods built a civilisation; cats once treated like royalty (and still in charge of a lot of streets); papyrus paper and picture-writing called hieroglyphics; ancient capitals named Memphis and Alexandria; doctors so skilled their remedies are still used today; markets that traded grain and cloth before coins existed; the Great Pyramid of Giza, built from over two million stones; and the Rosetta Stone that unlocked a lost language.

Every short chapter pairs a funny blunder with a true discovery, a Fun Fact, and a gentle Cappy Tip about kindness, curiosity, and slowing down to notice the world. The book closes with a Travel Scrapbook, a fact recap, and a quiz to share.

Perfect for ages 6–8 (grades 2–3), confident new readers, bedtime read-alouds, and homeschool trips around the globe. Each book stands on its own — or collect the whole around-the-world series.

"I wasn't lost — I was just taking the scenic route to this fact!"
