description

descriptif du fournisseur

This book contains stories of the lives of two brother, one born in 1943 and the other in 1946, as they navigated life in North Central Texas during the 1950s and early 1960s. The locale of the stories is Fort Worth, Texas, and the Silver Creek community in nearby Parker County. Important events included the polio epidemic, the drought of record in Texas during those years and the effect it had on the rural poor, the slow pace of integration, the fear of juvenile delinquency beginning with "Rebel Without a Cause" and similar files. The book covers the elitism rampant in the public high schools, including the death of the underground sorority and fraternity system.
