DreamWalk is a work of fiction authored by Giselle Ho and Bobby Ho. Written as a tool for both parents and children, the book explores the shared journey of growing up and the heavy burden of expectations. The authors' goal is to help families transform their everyday puzzles and problems into possibilities through understanding and empathy.
The story centers on a young student named Mia Smith, who is overwhelmed by the pressure to be a perfectly "reliable" daughter, student, and athlete. After a particularly difficult day of failures in math, tennis, and piano, Mia discovers that her yellow No. 2 pencil and a brass ring hidden under her floorboards can act as a "Master Key" and portal. This portal transports her into the Dreamscape, a realm where she has the power to erase her mistakes and rewrite the past to achieve effortless perfection.
However, Mia soon learns that this "Second Chance" is a dangerous trap. The Dream-Station is controlled by The Imagineer and The Dream Agent, who harvest her authenticity and mind power in exchange for the flawless façade they provide. As Mia becomes a detached, robotic version of herself in the waking world, her father, David, steps in to save her. Using empathy and dedicated quality time, David helps Mia realize that her imperfections are vital to her true identity, ultimately leading to a confrontation with the Dream Masters to reclaim her soul.
