Howick Falls had always carried whispers.
Some whispered of ancestors who walked through mist. Others of screams at midnight that weren't carried by wind. But the oldest and most feared tale was never told loudly it lived in silence, murmured only in rituals and warnings. The Zulu elders called it Inkanyamba—a name never to be spoken near rivers.
They said it was a giant serpent with the head of a horse and the eyes of burning rage, dwelling beneath the surface of Howick's thundering waterfall. Only shamans and fools dared speak its name. And no one, not a single soul, had ever seen it…
