Adie, a New Zealand nurse far from home, the only daughter in a family of seven joins the pair as they transfer to a field hospital close to the battlefront.
Living under the constant threat of attack, the bonds of friendship are strengthened. The women support one another, finding humour and love amid the horrors of war.
As weapons evolve and fighting tactics adapt, the women's nursing skills are honed but together they learn not all injuries are able to be cleansed, stitched and bandaged. Some linger deeper and require more than a field hospital or a nurse can possibly provide.
