We are well acquainted with emotions and emotional responses as we are human. When positive events occur in our lives, we feel happiness and joy. When negative events occur, we feel sadness and fear with equal strength. We are guided through rough waters and into safe harbors by our emotional responses. In this sometimes-chaotic world, they give us a foundational mental platform that can provide stability. How we define humanity is based on our emotions.
Our emotions make us human but they also have the ability to tear that humanity apart. The violence of our behavioral makeup has been caused by anger, fear, shame and disgust. These darker emotions account for the wars, genocides and social abuse that is present in our world. In our personal lives, the negative emotions that we experience can create havoc as well as lead to damage to the world around us.
