Mara Voss has started leaving herself notes.

When Mara walks into the woods behind her house one night and comes back three days later with cut feet and no memory of where she's been, her daughter Nell and granddaughter Ivy move in to look after her, and find a house that no longer quite matches its own measurements. A hallway four feet longer than it was yesterday. A door where the floor plan says there shouldn't be one. A photograph of two girls, taken sixty-five years ago, with a name written on the back that no birth record has ever confirmed.

The deeper Ivy digs, the clearer it gets: this house doesn't haunt the people inside it. It listens to them. It waits, patiently, to be remembered out loud, by someone who loved whoever it already took, and then it takes them too.
