I Buried the God of Death

In a world where forgotten gods slowly die when the people who once loved them stop remembering and mourning them, Naenia is the last keeper of the Godgrave, an ancient cemetery where fallen gods are given their final resting places.

After burying Issa, the dying goddess of bees, Naenia receives an extraordinary visitor: Orcus, the ten-thousand-year-old God of Death himself. He is starving because a powerful religious empire called the Communion has taught humanity to reject mourning and worship an ideal of immortality. Orcus knows that when the Communion's final Mass of the Undying is celebrated, he will die.

But there is one problem: Naenia cannot properly bury him unless she truly loves him.

To ensure his final burial, Orcus asks Naenia to marry him, giving her the impossible opportunity to discover whether love can grow between a mortal keeper and the god who has witnessed every death in existence. As they share griefs during their nightly vigils, Naenia begins to understand the loneliness of the being who has carried humanity's sorrow for ten thousand years.

Meanwhile, the Communion's Recovery is approaching the Godgrave, seeking Orcus's body as the ultimate divine relic. With war, religious power, ancient secrets, and the fate of death itself converging on the cemetery, Naenia must decide whether she can become more than the keeper of a grave—and whether she is willing to bury the god she has come to love.
