The lectures were delivered as part of a legacy trust left to the University top provide an annual course in a branch of natural science and history. The lectures in this course were given by Max Richard Constantin Verworn (1863 – 1921) who was a German physiologist and a native of Berlin. He studied medicine and natural sciences.
