LA BIBLE : LE TEXTE EN SES CONTEXTES

Les textes de la Bible sont tous historiquement et culturellement situés. Ils ne font sens qu'en référence aux circonstances singulières qui les ont portés. Jean-Marc Babut utilise les relations sémantiques internes aux textes ainsi que leurs relations avec les contextes interprétatif, culturel et historique pour élucider certains problèmes actuels d’exégèse dans les deux Testaments, notamment l’interprétation des textes des prophètes, le vocabulaire propre à chaque Apôtre, ou encore l'acception particulière de certains mots. Il dévoile, en outre, les limites de certaines traductions qui révèlent l’implication subjective du traducteur. Cette étude, entreprise dans un souci de rigueur scientifique, répond aux attentes d’un public sensible aux questions de traduction et d’interprétation de la Révélation biblique dans nos contextes contemporains.

All of the texts in the Bible are all historically and culturally situated. They only make sense when read in the context of the specific circumstances that engendered them. Jean-Marc Babut uses the internal semantics of the texts and relations with their interpretative, cultural and historical contexts to enlighten certain of today’s exegetical problems in the two Testaments, especially the interpretation of the Prophets, the specific vocabulary of each Apostle, and the special understanding of certain words. Moreover, he shows the limits of some translations where a subjective implication of the translator is discernible. This study, undertaken with scientific rigour, will satisfy the expectations of readers who are aware of questions of translation and interpretation of the Biblical Revelation in contemporary contexts.
