Literature of Hawaii

This collection includes all the original songs in Hawaiian text, coupled with English translations. These songs are very much a part of Hawaiian culture and society, the texts showing roots in mythological facets, cultural associations, ecological backdrops, and even erotic imagery. Nathaniel Bright Emerson (1839- 1915) was a medical physician, historian and author of Hawaiian mythology. He is mostly known for the translation into English of David Malo's work on Hawaiian lore and customs.
