descriptif du fournisseur

The Indian court system touches the lives of crores of people — yet for most, it remains unfamiliar and intimidating territory. What does it actually feel like to fight a case for ten years over a family property? To sit in a courtroom on the first hearing, full of expectations, only to be told the judge is on leave? To be an undertrial locked in a crowded jail while your tea shop is demolished and your son drops out of school?

Living Legally answers these questions through ten human stories. Each one follows a different person navigating a different corner of India's legal system: a stressed district judge, a vengeful wife who misuses the law, a greedy senior advocate, a retired landlord fighting a false case, and a Bangalore pensioner who loses his savings to a sophisticated cyber fraud. One story retells the Mahabharata as a corporate property dispute that winds its way from a district court all the way to the Supreme Court of India.

None of these stories are real, but all of them are true to life. Each ends with a plain-language Lessons section pointing readers to the legal options available in similar situations. The book has been updated to reflect India's new criminal laws — the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita — which came into force in July 2024.

An ideal read for students of law, litigants, and anyone curious about the world behind India's courtroom doors.
