King Cephus and his naval commanders must find out how and why, so they have summoned Tannys, in the hope that she receives another Vision.

In her travels, Nowait has also encountered and become infatuated with Niko, Walwyn's crown prince, charming, chivalrous, and whom she first spied hiding out by her 'secret' waterfall--desperate to escape the confines of an existence that has been stiflingly sheltered because of an assassination attempt when he was twelve.

The destinies of the three soon become entwined, and together they try to elude Niko's murderous royal cousin, Minaleus the Mad--and then inadvertently learn of the existence of a horrific monster from ancient mythology, which threatens to engulf and destroy Walwyn.
