"Mona; Or, The Secret of a Royal Mirror" by Mrs. Georgie Sheldon (also known as Sarah Elizabeth Forbush Downs) is a Victorian melodrama with all the fun of a period piece without the moralizing expectations of the period's society. Mona is left penniless after her uncle dies without a properly executed will. She hires herself out as a seamstress, to a woman she soon realizes was her late father's second wife. She must keep her identity a secret because she's worried this woman will come after her. This secret identity becomes even more complicated when Mona finds herself falling in love.
