When Kyle, Jules, and Tommy spend their summer holiday at Seashell Lodge with their Auntie May, they expect sandcastles, sailing, and long days at the beach. But their plans change the moment their dog Moriarty senses a crime.   Moriarty the dog is large, very clever with a nose for detecting trouble.  Moriarty, a large black-and-white mongrel with a patch over both eyes senses trouble before anyone else, and soon the children begin to notice strange happenings along the shore.
One moonlit night, a flashing light signals from Seabreeze Cottage, and another flashes back from the sea. Signals… between a house and a ship. Could it be smugglers? When the children investigate, they uncover a secret door, hidden tunnels beneath the cliffs, and a plot led by the unfriendly Mr Penrose and a dangerous man known as Scotch.
When Auntie May is kidnapped to keep her quiet, the children and Moriarty must act fast. With courage, teamwork, and Moriarty's quick thinking, they navigate dark tunnels, free Auntie May, and help the police capture the smugglers once and for all.
Now known as The Whodunit Cre  , the children return home heroes, with Moriarty the detective dog who becomes their loyal partner in every adventure still to come.
