Gene Stratton-Porter (1863 - 1924) was an American naturalist, photographer, and author. She is well known for being one of the first ever women to start a movie production company. While residing in Geneva, Stratton-Porter spent much time exploring, observing nature, sketching, and making photographs at the Limberlost Swamp. She also began writing stories and books and books about nature; Moths of the Limberlost was of them. The Limberlost swamp was the setting for two of her most popular novels, Freckles (1904) and A Girl of the Limberlost (1909).
