College student Gail Rickenbach is less than a semester away from graduating with a degree in Journalism, in 1968, when she contracts Transform Sickness and becomes a Focus. As a young woman of the 60s, she's faced with a vast array of interpersonal problems as she attempts to care for an entire household of men and women Transforms, most older than her. Complicating her life is the fact that her abilities as a Focus do not match the information given to her by the authorities.
This stand-alone short novel, set in the Commander universe, can be read independently of the other books of the Commander series. The main character of this short novel, however, does appear later in the Commander series.
