The book includes two novels: "Joshua" and "The Country of Ertzel". Both stories are connected by a common idea. The seriousness of the book does not preclude humor and irony.

Ancient Joshua is the Biblical personage, the military leader and prophet, the son of Nun. The modern Joshua is a young boy living in an Israeli settlement. The story "The Country of Ertzel" tells how the great love of a youth and a girl ends in tragedy - both are burned in the flames of a merciless war between common sense and insanity. The fate of other main characters involved in the irreconcilable struggle is also sad. The story tells about the misfortunes created by tenacious ideas of God's chosenness. The material used is about political events in one country known to all. The reader easily recognizes the prototypes of the geographical names invented by the author. The names of some heroes are chosen with a hint of real persons. There are many allusions in the text.
