For most of their lives, Maya Owens and Blaise Simms have been aware of the feud between their grandparents. It never really bothered them, and when they started dating, they simply hid it because of the very real threat of heart attacks, disinheritance and other theatrics.
Even so, real life doesn't care about perfect matches, and things ended. As things often do.
Maya moved to a new city. Blaise stayed behind in their hometown. As long as she never came back, there was a good chance she'd never have to see him again.
Until she does.
-
Now that Maya is back in town with her grandmother, for what was supposed to be 'the decrepit' Mr. Simms's funeral—but was in fact, not—she has to deal with seeing Blaise again, and feeling things she thought she'd gotten over.
-
Though Blaise knows Old Mrs. Owens returned with the full intention of dancing on his grandfather's grave like the witch the man had always claimed she was, he doesn't hold any grudges. Mostly because seeing Maya again is something he's been hoping for, just not quite this soon.
Besides making sure the oldies don't kill each other and ruin the new carpet, Blaise wants to get Maya to take a chance on them again. What they had before was real. And he's pretty sure it still is.
