Reflections in Curved Mirrors is a documentary study of the mechanisms of religious stigmatization in the 21st century. It focuses on the fate of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement as one of the most telling examples of how humanitarian and spiritual activity can be turned into a target of political and ideological attack.

However, the book is not a narrowly confessional apology. It takes a principled position: the protection of any religious community, whether Jewish, Christian, Muslim, or other. The author consistently defends the universal principle of freedom of conscience as the cornerstone of civilized society.

Chabad is presented here as a historical spiritual movement that originated in Eastern Europe and is based on the intellectual tradition of Chochmah-Binah-Da'at—a synthesis of reason, faith, and responsibility. From the philosophical legacy of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi to the modern global network of emissaries operating in more than 100 countries and territories, Chabad is seen as an example of religious service open to society.

But it is precisely this openness, international activity, and participation in interfaith dialogue that have made the movement an easy target for conspiracy theories and anti-cult rhetoric.

The book provides a detailed analysis of real events in recent years:

the campaign against the Chabad community in Perm and the use of anti-cult terminology as a tool of pressure;

the scandal surrounding the publication by an aide to the Russian Security Council and the harsh reaction of Russia's Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar;

attacks on Jewish centers in the US, including the shootings in Pittsburgh and Poway;

the murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the UAE against the backdrop of normalized relations as part of diplomatic initiatives during Donald Trump's presidency.

Through these examples, the author demonstrates a universal mechanism: first, labeling, then dehumanization, and only then violence. This algorithm does not depend on religion. Today, one community may be the target of an attack; tomorrow, it may be another.

Special attention is paid to the role of anti-cult structures, transnational networks of "expert" stigmatization, and the concept of "spiritual security," which in some cases replaces legal argumentation with the ideology of exclusion.

The book is written in an academically rigorous, well-argued style. The author avoids emotional journalism, offering the reader a mature, analytical view of the problem.

The main conclusion of the work is simple and fundamental: protecting religious freedom means protecting the very idea of law. Any attempt to declare one of the traditional or non-traditional communities "outlawed" on the basis of their worldview inevitably undermines the foundation of the rule of law.

Reflections in Crooked Mirrors is a book for the thinking reader: lawyers, historians, religious scholars, journalists, and anyone who understands that human dignity cannot depend on religious affiliation.

This study is not about religious conflict. It is about how to preserve humanity in an era of ideological distortions. Above all, it is a firm, well-argued position in defense of any faith that expresses itself peacefully and respects the law.
