Rejecting the Alpha

I work the night shift at a 24-hour convenience store in the shadow of the Namsan Tower. I am a jagged wolf, a mixed-blood with no pack standing, living paycheck to paycheck in a rooftop room that freezes in winter. Cha Jin-woo is the Pack Enforcer for the Seoul Central Clan. 

He wears tailored suits that cost more than my life. He buys water from my counter every Tuesday at 2 AM. One rainy night, our fingers brush over a receipt. The spark is immediate. The bond snaps into place, heavy and suffocating. His eyes flash gold. He knows. I know. But Jin-woo doesn't claim me. 

He looks at my nametag, then at the grime under my fingernails, and his face hardens. He pulls his hand away, leaves the water, and walks out into the rain without a word. He chooses his reputation over his instinct. 

That silence is my rejection. I don't chase him. I quit my job the next morning and vanish into the labyrinth of alleyways in Mullae-dong, working in a welding shop where the noise drowns out thoughts. 

Six months later, the Central Clan is in chaos. Jin-woo is losing his mind, his wolf going feral from the severed connection. He tears through the city to find me, wrecking his alliances and his future. When he finally kicks down the door of my shop, he expects a tearful reunion.
