descriptif du fournisseur
The first thing that strikes visitors arriving in Albi is its colour. The uniform urban landscape consists largely of brick buildings, giving the town a beauty that is vibrant with warm, glowing tones. From the mediaeval half-timbered houses with their nogging to the pale yellow-ochre frontages of the 19th century, not forgetting the superb Renaissance mansions with their high-quality brickwork carefully assembled with mortar joints, Albi fully deserves the nickname of « Red Town » occasionally given to it. In the brillant sunlight of a summer day, the town is full of bright, vivid colours, the air vibrates in the heat and, with the tile roofs and dark, slender outlines of the cypress trees, this could almost be Tuscany. The powerful, timeless architecture of St. Cecilia's Cathedral and La Berbie Palace, the bustle of streets that are ideal for a quiet stroll, and the excellent local food washed down with wines from the Gaillac area all encourage delighted visitors to stay just that while longer. Since July 2010, the episcopal city of Albi is a World Heritage site.
