She was supposed to be a wife by noon.
By one o'clock, Cora Ledbetter was driving home in silence, her veil unpinned, her dress folded over her mother's arm. Asa Cobb had not come. No call. No note. No reason.
Just gone.
So Cora did what she had to do. She got up the next morning, fed the cattle, ran the farm, and built a life solid enough to stand on. She decided to be fine.
