It is what makes us human, as it is what makes us imperfect. #2 The shadow is the part of the unconscious that is closest to consciousness, and it is the most denied expression. It is a relatively separate splinter personality in the unconscious that is isolated from exposure and discovery. #3 The shadow is the part of us that we don’t want to see. It is the disowned self, a holding buffer that contains our unacceptable parts. It becomes a holding buffer as we grow up, and we drag it behind us as we grow up. #4 The shadow is the whole unconscious, and it takes on a personal form once we begin to develop awareness of parts of it. It is through the process of shadow-work that we eventually gain a profound understanding of who we are.
