Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 George Washington was a man of tremendous contradictions. He was an extremely ambitious young man who worked hard to achieve fame, glory, land, and riches, yet at a pivotal moment in American history, he did something so selfless that it’s difficult to fully fathom. #2 George Washington was born in 1732. He was the first son of Mary Ball and tobacco farmer Augustine Washington. He had two older half-brothers, Augustine and Lawrence, and one half sister, Jane, who were children from his father’s first marriage. #3 George Washington was a young surveyor who wanted to become one of the elite officers in the Royal Navy. His mother fought to prevent him from becoming a commissioned officer, believing that such a life would be too harsh for him. But George was determined to acquire property and wealth, and a surveying career could lead to quick riches. #4 When George Washington was sent to find a good location for an English fort in the Ohio Valley, he met up with the French, who claimed the land as their own. The House of Burgesses then decided to fund a Virginia Regiment to assist in building a fort.
