Sample Book Insights: #1 I would like to thank the following people for their help and kindness in preparing Suhaili for the voyage: David Waterhouse and George Greenfield, David Ascoli, Charles Barnard, Mike Christiansen, Larry Hughes, Jim Jones, the staffs of Surrey Commercial Docks, Newhaven Marina, and the Falmouth Harbour Board, and the Marconi Marine staff. I would also like to thank the following people for their help in making the voyage: David Waterhouse, George Greenfield, George Christian, Tony Dowds, Mike Christiansen, Richard Carpenter, Ken Parker, Bruce Maxwell, Bill Rowntree, my brother Mike, and many of the crew of HMS Duncan. #2 I would like to thank the following people for their help in preparing Suhaili for the voyage: David Waterhouse, George Greenfield, George Christian, Tony Dowds, Mike Christiansen, Richard Carpenter, Ken Parker, Bruce Maxwell, and the Marconi Marine staff. #3 I was thinking about the feasibility of sailing around the world nonstop when my father mentioned that Tabarly was building a trimaran. I realized that someone would eventually attempt this, and I was hooked. #4 I was born in England in 1939. I lost my first boat when I was four, but built a 10-foot canoe in my grandparents’ attic when I was fourteen and attending Berkhamsted School as a day boy. I took her to Selsey in Sussex for the summer holidays, and she was seaworthy.
