But the lack of food forced Indians to seek provisions from the government, which declared that buffalo no longer ranged thereon in such numbers as to justify the chase. #4 The history of humankind’s involvement with buffalo shows that humans have rarely regarded the wishes of other humans when it comes to following and killing the animals.
