C. , through the Roman Republic, to the establishment of what we today call the Roman Empire, finishing with the rule of Emperor Justinian in the sixth century A. D. #2 The three-part chronological division of Roman history is Monarchy, Republic, and Empire. The Romans did not consider these periods to be separate, but rather one continuous history that was divided only by the rule of kings. #3 The eastern section of the empire, which was ruled by the Ottoman Empire, continued to believe that Roman imperial government would last another thousand years. The last eastern emperor was killed in A.
