descriptif du fournisseur

When a devastating flood sweeps through the highlands of Kenya, a four-year-old girl is torn from her family and found clinging to a tree by a kind stranger. Lala, a Giriama woman from the Taita plains, cannot leave the child behind. She names her Taji — meaning crown — and raises her as her own, pouring into her the language, the rhythms, and the warm red-and-white world of the Kenyan coast.

For ten years, Taji grows up believing this is the whole of her story.

At fourteen, everything changes. When Taji attends the Chande festival and dances to a melody she has never learned yet somehow knows in her bones, an Agikuyu elder recognises something extraordinary — the six braided knots she has worn her whole life, adorned with gold and white beads, are not a Giriama style at all. They belong to a single clan among the people of the mountain: the Athamaki, the royal bloodline. And the small birthmark above her left eyebrow matches the description of a child who has been searched for across two communities for a decade.

Taji must now travel the road between two worlds — the warm golden plains that raised her and the cool green highlands that claim her — and face questions that have no easy answers. Who is she when the name she was given is not the name she was born with? Can a girl carry two homes inside her without losing either? And what does it mean to be found, when being found means leaving behind the love that saved you?

Sweeping across the landscapes of coastal and central Kenya, and drawing richly from the cultures of the Giriama and Agikuyu peoples, Taji: The Lost Heir is a story about identity, belonging, and the particular courage it takes to hold two worlds in your heart at the same time. It is about the mothers who find us and the mothers who made us, about the rhythms our bodies carry long before our minds understand them, and about the truth that love does not diminish when it expands — it only grows larger.

For readers aged 9 to 15, and for anyone who has ever wondered where they truly come from.
