In this collection of mystery, misadventure, romance and horror, workmen swoop along cables high above a teeming city, praying they don't plummet to their doom, while below them, a young seamstress sees too much and finds herself threatened by the sordid side of city politics. In the shadows of the deeper streets, an ill-fated academic studies a mysterious artefact, a detective investigates a kidnapping, and farmers tending fields of vat-grown flesh contend with the arrival of bodies in their meaty crop.
