From military nurse to human rights lawyer to senator, Yvonne Boyer has dedicated her life to protecting Indigenous women from the abuses of the state, culiminating in a bill finally criminalizing forced sterilization in Canada.

Now, she brings together the work of a lifetime into a volume that chronicles the hidden reality of reproductive violence here. Chronicling the shifting realities for Indigenous women over the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as corresponding human rights abuses abroad, Senator Boyer exposes that what we think of as dystopian might in fact be our present moment.  

But within that urgency is hope.

Through the work of her office at the Senate, we see just how much change and healing can come from speaking truth and standing together. This is a galvanizing reminder of the violence of misogyny and colonialism, and the inspiring fighters taking it on.
