Childhood is hard. The Bashful Butterfly is a collection of self-love poems for the bashful little girl in all of us. Too skinny, too light, too brown, lips too big, hair too nappy, I've heard it all and sadly, I believed it all…until, I didn't.

I wrote these poems to express how I used to feel about myself because society said I should. After nearly five decades, I've learned to love me as God made me and accepted the fact that I'm enough.

To anyone who has been made to feel that they weren't enough, know this: A person's opinion of you does not define you. Your opinion of yourself and whom you were created to be does that. Love you as you are, no modifications to your original designed are required.
