The booth gave them five photographs. They had posed for four.
On their first date at a restored old cinema, photograph conservator Mara Ellison and fire investigator Elias Hart step into a vintage photo booth. The first four pictures capture an awkward, promising beginning. The fifth shows them as newlyweds in 1926, standing before a mansion in flames.
Neither of them remembers the wedding. Both recognize the house.
As the images begin to change, impossible memories bleed into their lives. Photographs preserve people no one else remembers. A woman long believed to have abandoned Mara appears carrying Elias's sister from a fire. And inside every altered frame, something watches from behind the glass.
The trail leads to Black Briar House and a century-old bargain joining their families: the camera can grant one possible life, but only by erasing another. Mara can recover the mother she lost. Elias can keep the sister he swore to protect. They cannot have both.
With the final exposure approaching, Mara and Elias must decide whether their love is real—or only another lure created by the thing inside the lens. Because if the fifth photograph is completed, one of them will disappear, and the Witness will finally have a face of its own.
The Bride in the Fifth Frame is an atmospheric supernatural thriller about inherited guilt, dangerous longing, and two people who refuse to let fate decide who deserves to exist.
