The word crescendo describes the loudest point reached after a steady and continual increase in sound. It also signifies the highest point in a progressive escalation of intensity. As a verb, it conveys the idea of something steadily growing stronger until it reaches a powerful climax, as when "the reluctant cheers began to crescendo." We are living in a spiritual season that is moving relentlessly toward such a crescendo. Several years ago, the Lord impressed upon me that we were entering a season, therefore, a divinely appointed period of time, not measured by human calendars, during which everything would intensify. Since then, we have witnessed a progressive escalation. The conflict between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness has become increasingly visible, increasingly hostile, and increasingly relentless. What began as subtle opposition has developed into an unprecedented spiritual confrontation. This is the Crescendo. We are now living in a time when hostility toward God, His Word, and His people is reaching an extraordinary level of intensity. It is a season of accelerating spiritual warfare in which the pressure upon believers will continue to increase. Yet this crescendo is not limited to the increasing activity of darkness. It is also a season of divine acceleration. As the enemy hastens his work, so the Holy Spirit is also moving with greater urgency, calling, refining, equipping, and empowering God's people. The harvest is ripening even as the battle intensifies. Heaven is moving with purpose while hell rages with desperation.
