The Bible is an amazing book, with a real wealth of information in its pages. But it takes a dedicated person to seek the pearls of wisdom just waiting to be found. As you study the Bible, you will realise it could not possibly be the thoughts and rambling of many different authors, but every word is inspired by God himself. Many people refuse to believe this, but if you are prepared to seek the truth with an open mind and not rely on old preconceived ideas, then you will see exactly what I mean.
To better understand who Jesus is, and why his family life is so important for us to comprehend, we need to know everything about his past; we need to go back to the time of Abraham and see the promises God made to him.
Gen 12:1 Now the LORD said to Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you."
Gen 12:2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
Gen 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.
Abram, who later became Abraham, received these promises from God. They are unconditional and irrevocable. Abram was to go to the land God would show him, and he would become a great nation, and his name would become great. God will bless those who bless Abram and curse those who curse him.
The greatest part of this promise is the last part. In this promise, God assures Abram that all the families of the earth, not just his own family, but all families, will receive blessings. This is a direct reference to Jesus Christ and how he will bring salvation to all nations because the gospel of salvation is a common salvation and is open to all who will accept Jesus Christ as their Lord.
God passes this promise down through Abraham to Isaac, as we see in.
Gen 26:4 I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and will give to your offspring all these lands. And in your offspring, all the nations of the earth shall be blessed,
God made this promise to Abraham and passed it down through his offspring, directly referencing Jesus Christ and his future actions. Abraham was told it was going to be through his offspring, so this promise was for a time in the future.
