The Gaunt Stranger

This is a crime novel that tells the story of Ringer. "Ringer," a notorious killer, long thought to be dead in Australia, returns to England seeking vengeance for his sister's death. Maurice Meister, the criminal mastermind, is threatened by the "Ringer." Detective Inspector Alan Wembury is involved in the investigation and, despite his disdain for Meister, tries to protect him.
