Aeronautica's transatlantic flight from Orbetello, Italy, to Chicago, Illinois, for the Century of Progress International Exposition generated significant enthusiasm across various countries, with the United States displaying the most excitement. The American public referred to Balbo's fleet as the "Italian Air Armada." Balbo viewed this mission as a pivotal advancement in transatlantic commercial aviation and a notable success for Fascist Italy's public image. The city of Chicago presented him with a golden key, and the Sioux tribe honoured him with the title of "Chief Flying Eagle." Upon the fleet's arrival in New York City, they were met by enthusiastic crowds, and Balbo was invited to dine with President Roosevelt. New York City even organized a parade in Balbo's honour.
