Disgraced investigative journalist Griffin Harker lost his career after reporting a pattern of impossible disappearances and the systematic suppression surrounding them. Eleven months later, a classified agency delivers the confirmation no one else would give him:
What you reported was real.
Recruited into the secret Eidolon Program, Griffin learns that history is not fixed. Beneath ordinary time flows the Eidolon Current, a temporal field vulnerable to intrusions that can erase people, communities, and entire chains of consequence from existence. Through the program's Flowgate, an agent's consciousness can be sent into a person already living at the threatened point in history.
Griffin's first mission takes him to the Carolina backcountry in November 1764, where he awakens inside Alden Crowe, a frontier scout whose life, memories, and relationships begin pressing against Griffin's own. The settlement of Blackwater Run is disappearing from the historical record. Buildings flicker at their edges. People become briefly translucent. At night, witnesses see a spectral figure carrying an impossible light through the trees: the Lantern Wraith.
If Blackwater Run vanishes, dozens of lives will be erased—including descendants whose future work will protect much of the Eastern Seaboard. To stop it, Griffin must investigate from inside a world governed by frontier hardship, local folklore, and dangers its people cannot name. But the deeper he follows the Wraith, the more evidence he finds that this disturbance is not accidental—and that someone reached Blackwater before him.
The mission is also changing Griffin. Alden's memories feel increasingly like his own. The boundary between observer and host is weakening. And the agency that recruited him may be concealing failed missions, missing agents, and knowledge of the temporal intrusions it has never shared.
To save Blackwater Run, Griffin must uncover who is haunting the settlement, anchor a vanishing community to history, and return through the Current before he loses the life he came from—or becomes another man the future was never meant to remember.
The Lantern At Blackwater launches The Eidolon Agent, a science-fiction time-travel thriller of historical mystery, altered timelines, suppressed truth, and one investigator sent into the past to preserve the future.
