When Amara's father abandoned her at a boarding school and cut all contact, her primary goal was surviving and trying to understand why her life had taken such a drastic turn. But when strange dreams of an elf in the woods who is desperately trying to communicate with her in a language she can't understand begin to haunt her, Amara's life spirals out of control. Rodney and Tursanay, the two friends who've become her only support after losing the only family she had left, work desperately to keep her afloat. But a joke deal made by Rodney to steal Amara's dreams so she can get some peace turns into weird hallucinations of seeing the elf enter the classroom - and watching the elf's confusion grow when he sees Rodney instead of Amara.
Intrigued by this, Tursanay jokingly makes the same deal with Rodney for the dreams, only to have chaos erupt when the elf emerges through a portal into the dorm room, leaving Tursanay to interrogate this stranger and find out just what's going on. But what she finds is far more bizarre than she ever expected. The (half) elf identifies himself as Soren, and that he is on a mission to find the missing Dai-Nē: the most powerful people in the magic world - and she was one of them. But something was wrong. The magic wasn't where it was supposed to be.
As they scramble to understand the implications of it all, the school gets attacked and the trio flee for their lives from foes that seem to be invisible to everyone else. After narrowly escaping through a portal, the four must navigate a land that was separated from the rest of the world by a Veil. A land where magical creatures exist and cities are alive. Now the four need to unlock the full potential of their powers while learning why they hid in a world with no magic in the first place. As the story of the past unfolds, they realize the magical world is in far more trouble than even it realizes. The living cities are getting sick, their inhabitants dying. Rumors that magic is getting weaker are spreading like wildfire, and it all links back to the Veil, which appears to be getting thinner and thinner.
But what happens if the Veil collapses? Will the Magic and Non-Magic worlds collide?
