The Mean Boss

The ad was unusually blunt in that it wanted someone to basically fetch, carry and do whatever she was told without questions. The agency she called said the man was mean and nasty and rude, but very wealthy and eccentric and needed a 'girl Friday' to run errands and tidy up around his house.

The pay was very generous, probably to make up for his attitude, Autumn thought, so she applied. And she found the man even more outrageous and rude than she had imagined. He wasn't as old as she'd been led to believe, but was still more than twice her age, and talked down to her in a way she never would have tolerated normally. But the mansion he lived in was gorgeous and not only was the pay great but it came with free room and board up on the fourth floor in what used to be the butler's apartment a century earlier.

Autumn fell in love with the cute little apartment, and with the pay, with almost no bills! She accepted and moved in.
