This is a short story of a woman named Carlita who is the captain of a ship named the Sea Demon. She is blessed to have her hand maiden Anna whom she has freed from indentured servitude. The story takes place back in the late 1700's when merchant sailing ships were used for trade and is over is over 20,000 words.
Carlita witnesses a situation the night before her ship sets sail in the morning. She can't seem to get the vision out of her mind or understand why it affects her the way it does. With the help of Anna and her first mate Alex she thinks up a lottery system. She offers her "back door" as the Saturday afternoon prize until her ship has made it back home.
