Marcus Wenckheim's lawyer calls Lola to invite her to a formal birthday dinner for Bea at their estate. Her grandmother recognizes it as a dangerous fishing expedition for information. For three grueling weeks, Lola rehearses social scripts every evening with her grandmother, practicing how to deliver small, true, completely boring answers in a puzzled voice. At the grand dining table, Marcus launches a subtle cross-examination about Room 17, her architect father, and Mrs. Halloway. Lola executes her training flawlessly, moving herself into his inactive column.

When spring break arrives, her grandmother takes her deep into the Mátra mountains to an ancestral stone farmhouse built in 1881. Lola meets the senior generation of the Reading Circle: Erzsébet Tomson (91), Margit Halmos (89), and Klára Lévai (84). Underneath an 1881 photograph showing her ancestor Henriette Vance beside Louisa Ivybridge, they reveal the true scope of the conspiracy. The Circle was a backup system preserving seventeen distributed copies of documents detailing historical injustices against women.

Marcus Wenckheim is planning to sell these diaries to a German collector for eighty million euros, but needs to destroy the original meeting minutes locked in Room 17 to orphan the documents legally. He has forced a foundation board vote on April 17 to open the room and wipe the records. Margit asks Lola to lead her friends in recovering the key and removing the minutes first.

Then comes a defining moment: Lola Vance looks the senior generation in the eyes and says, 'No'. She refuses to be scripted by adults, choosing to make her own independent decision on Monday. Her grandmother cries on a rock, proud of her independence. Returning to Castle Hill, Lola meets Tommie, Rae, and Bea on the Margitsziget. After Rae designs a tactical verification step, the four girls unite by choice. Lola writes 'Yes' in pencil, and the true heist is born.
