Most of the stories in this fantasy collection are set in the world of Skein, and some of them involve characters who appear in the Angus the Mage series. Three are prequels to the series: "Weary" predates it by several centuries and involves Sardach and Argyle, two characters who play a significant role in The Viper's Fangs and The Golden Key; and the other two relate to The Banner of the Wounded Hand prior to Angus joining it ("A Fool's Errand" foreshadows the series by highlighting how Hobart, Ortis, and Ribaldo met Giorge; and "The Beast of Dun Keep" expands upon a comment alluding to it in the series).
