Sara is a modern-day girl living in Salem, Massachusetts with her mother after her father's death. During the move a strange old box is discovered. Sara learns that she and her family are related to a woman who was declared a witch in 1692. At Sara's new school she discovers her new friend, Bryn, is bullied and called a witch. Sara wants to help her friend and end the name calling.
In 1692, Susannah North Martin lived in Salem on her farm. She was a strong woman and stood up for herself. She was sentenced as a witch and condemned to death in Salem. Many other women and men suffered the same fate. It was a terrible time in history.
